Mexi-Manga. Wally and I spotted this cool mural painted by Mexican illustrator and graffiti artist SMITHE aka Luis Enrique while exploring the Roma Norte neighborhood. Ok, actually we were on our way to the Panadería Rosetta to purchase coffee and a pastry. His fragmented, surreal and graphic style reminded me of a Beauchêne skull where all the pieces are seemingly suspended in mid-air. #romamexico #cdmx #mexicocity #visitmexico #smitheone #streetart #graffiti #artwalk #streetartchilango #arteurbano #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
High Flyers. After our incredible experience on the canals of Xochimilco we heard a melodic wind instrument and paddle drum, the rhythmic beats of the latter sounding like the a trotting horse. Airborne in front of us were four men in a trancelike state hanging upside down from a rotating central pole with multicolored ribbons streaming from their heads. The music was coming from a fifth man standing atop a small platform. We had stumbled upon what is known as the Danza de Los Voladores, a remarkable Mesoamerican ritual to appease the gods and ensure a bountiful harvest. #xochimilco #cdmx #mexicocity #visitmexico #heritage #danzadelosvoladores #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Where There's Smoke…There's Fire. Using smoke as the foundation for its dishes and named after the iconic performer, Bowie Cocina de Humo is the creation of talented Mexican chef Rodrigo Carrasco. After our first course arrived under a glass dome, concealed by a miniature cloud that hung motionless before vanishing in a wisp of woodsmoke, we knew we were about to embark on a culinary adventure. Racked and Stacked. Located next to the Buenavista rail and bus station is the fortress-like 400,000 square-foot Biblioteca José Vasconcelos and surrounding Botanic Garden designed by renowned Mexican architect Alberto Kalach. Inside you’ll find clusters of modular stacks that appear to defy logic floating above the floor like a science fiction version of Hogwarts. In reality they’re hung vertically by thin steel beams from the roof, and if that’s not enough to entice you to visit there’s an intricately inscribed gray whale skeleton by conceptual artist Gabriel Orozco inside too. Going for Baroque. If you’re like Wally and me, you can’t go to a city without exploring a few historic churches. The relatively plain façade of La Parroquia San Juan Bautista does a great job at concealing its exuberant interior, which was modified over a 20-year period to reflect the prevailing Baroque style. Discover why you should spend some time exploring this monument in Coyoacán by following the link in our bio. #coyoacan #cdmx #parroquiasanjuanbautista #tequierocdmx #mexicocity #visitmexico #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #catholicchurch #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Leader of the Pack. Easily one of our favorite places in CDMX, the bohemian enclave of Coyoacán takes its name from the indigenous Nahuatl word Coyohuacan, meaning “the Place of Coyotes.” With its meandering streets, restaurants, plazas and artisan market you can spend a perfect afternoon experiencing the neighborhoods beyond La Casa Azul, the lifelong home of famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. All you’ll need is a comfortable pair of shoes and a sense of adventure. Read all about our favorite spots by following the link in our bio. #coyoacan #cdmx #mexicocity #visitmexico #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Welcome to the Dollhouse. Located on a small island in the network of Xochimilco’s canals is the strange spectacle of La Isla de las Muñecas aka The Island of the Dead Dolls. The island is decorated with hundreds of creepy dolls, hanging from branches, tied to fences or cruelly nailed into tree trunks. More than a few are missing their heads. Read this ghost story and our experience by following the link in our bio. #isladelasmuñecas #theislandofthedolls #xochimilco #cdmx #instamexico #mexicocity #visitmexico #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Where in the World is the Museo Dolores Olmedo? Often overlooked by tourists, the former estate of Dolores Olmedo Patiño, located southeast of CDMX, holds the largest private collection of peacocks, err…works of Mexico’s most famous artist couple – Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. Even if you aren’t there to see the collection, the park-like setting is the perfect way to spend an idyllic afternoon. Ceci n’est pas une fleur. The red petals of the Poinsettia are not petals at all, but bracts, leaves that turn a crimson color in response to the cooler nighttime temperatures between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice. The species of plant is native to Mexico, where it’s known as la flor de Nochebuena, the Goodnight, the evening before Christmas Day. Cuttings from the plant made their journey to the United States in 1828 with Joel Poinsett, the first American ambassador to Mexico. It became known outside of Mexico as the Poinsettia. #flordenochebuena #poinsettia #flores #navidad #instamexico #cdmx #mexicocity #visitmexico #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Are you a good witch, or a bad witch? Sure, the Mercado de Sonora is all business up front with its numerous stalls selling piñatas, super-sized stuffed animals and decorations for festive occasions. But the party in the back begins once you’ve found Santa Muerte, the goddess of death and the witches market — a labyrinth of smoke filled stalls filled with mysterious goods associated with brujería, Santeria, shamanism and voodoo. The Moor The Merrier. The colorful neo-Mudéjar landmark located in the center of the Alameda de Santa María de la Ribera Park is an unusual sight for CDMX – akin to something you’d imagine seeing in the South of Spain. Moorish in style, it was originally fabricated for the Cotton Centennial Exposition, held in New Orleans in 1884 and earned the nickname of the “Mexican Alhambra Palace.” Learn more about this fascinating structure by following the link in our bio. #kioscomorisco #santamarialaribera #cdmx #ig_mexico #mexicocity #arquitecturamx #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Pulpo Fiction. If you had told my 10 -year-old self that I’d happily eat octopus and crickets as an adult, I wouldn’t have believed it. But, like coffee and beer, two other things I swore I would never like as a kid, I love them – well, the beer, coffee and octopus at least! 🐙

When in Roma. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Mexico City, look no further than the charming and stylish Ignacia Guest House located in the Colonia Roma neighborhood. The courtyard patio contains cacti typical of Oaxaca, and a steel-clad fountain gently gurgling in the midst of it all. Candi Crush. The multilevel 9th century Hindu temple complex of Prambanan is an elaborate menagerie of gods and monsters: kinnara (half-human, half-bird), devas (divine), asuras (profane)and other mythological beings from the Mahabharata and Ramayana. Happy Hump Day! Although Candi Mendut may be missing its top and is lesser-known than nearby Borobudur, it’s worth walking around the complex to take in the peaceful atmosphere, and have a swing on one of the root streamers of the enormous sacred banyan. #candimendut #jogja #explorejogja #magelang #indonesia #wonderfulindonesia #travel #instatravel #travelgram #tourism #travelblogger #travelphoto #instavacation #packyoursuitcase #trip #traveltheworld #getaway #wanderlust
Demons by the Dozen. Bali is a compact island full of ancient temples and unique cultural traditions. Although each are beautiful in their own way, the pura dalem, temples of death, guarded by an assortment of bug-eyed demons with lolling tongues were our favorite. Adventures in Candi Land. An easy day trip from Ubud, the elusive ancient rock-cut burial shrines of Gunung Kawi were allegedly carved in one night by the fingernail of a giant warrior named Kebo Iwa — or were they built for a king and his many wives? Lost in Translation. A short distance from Ubud is the ghoulishly carved cave face of Goa Gajah. Its name translates as the ‘Elephant Cave.’ And while you won’t find the remotest hint of a pachyderm anywhere on the small temple complex — aside from a stone statue of the elephant-headed Hindu god Ganesh inside the cave, it does make for an interesting stop.
